Michael Bohl - First Vice President District Governor

Lion Mike joined the Jackson Lions Club in 1978 and has served in nearly every club capacity since then.  In the nearly 100 years of the Jackson Lions Club, Lion Mike was the first two time Jackson Lions Club President, having served in 1984-85 and 2018-2019.

During those years, Lion Mike has been a member of the Board of Directors for over 40 years, received two Helen Keller Fellow Awards, received multiple President's appreciation awards, was Jackson Lions Club Lion of the Year, and has attended one international convention and many District 4-A1 convents.

Born in Madera, Ca., Lion Mike has lived in the Central Valley most of his life and first moved to Ione in 1955.  A graduate of Tracy High School and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Lion Mike owned several local weekly newspapers in the Mother Lode for 15 years.  A second career in education began in about 1995 when Lion Mike earned his teaching credential and taught elementary school for 20 years prior to retiring.  Lion Mike also has a history in local Ione politics as he has served on the Ione Planning Commission (past and present), the Ione City Council and has been the mayor of the City of Ione.

Lion Mike and wife Rita of nearly 28 years have six children, 19 grandchildren, and one great grandchild and enjoy time with family, travel, and playing golf.  He is also an avid cyclist who has ridden his bicycle coast-to-coast twice and from Florida to Canada once.

Lion Mike has been dedicated to serving Lionism in Amador County for decades and he is looking forward to achieving new and higher goals at the district level over the next two years and beyond.

GET READY FOR THE CHILDREN’S HALLOWEEN PARADE IN JACKSON!

Main Street, Jackson, Oct. 31, 2025   *   Sponsored by the Jackson Lions Club

 

The Jackson Lions Club will host their popular annual Children’s Halloween Parade for young ghosts and goblins on Main Street, Jackson, as they have every year since 1965.

  • Kids from pre-school through 8th grade welcome. Costume prizes are awarded by age group.

  • Costume judging starts promptly at 5:30 pm, gathering at the Fire Station on Main Street. (This is a half an hour later than in the past).

  • New! Prize for Best Family/Group Theme costumes: One year of Republic Services residential garbage service (valued at $750)!

  • The Parade starts at 6:00 pm, walking south on Main Street to the Civic Center

  • At the Civic Center, all children will receive a bag of treats and the Lions will serve free hot dogs to all participants.
